Paul Ryan should be waterboarded

Mike Shaner

It shouldn't surprise anyone that Republicans never disagreed with Obamacare from a philosophical standpoint. They believe, just as much as democrats, that government has a role to play in delivering healthcare. They just don't like the idea that Obama beat them to it. According to this article Paul Ryan has presented a plan to "replace" Obamacare after it is repealed. Why not just leave it repealed and let the markets work? Oh, I know why, because the thing politicians love the most besides stealing liberty is spending other peoples money. Paul Ryan should be removed from office after being waterboarded.

Libertarians predicted Tea Party betrayal in January

Wes Benedict August 2, 2011

WASHINGTON - On January 17, 2011, the Libertarian Party (LP) asked the 90,000 readers of its weekly email message to take a poll asking, "When will we know that Republicans successfully fooled the Tea Partiers?"

59% of respondents chose the option, "When they raise the debt limit without real spending cuts."

View the poll results here.

Chris Edwards of the libertarian Cato Institute recently pointed out that today's bipartisan debt deal, known as the Budget Control Act of 2011, does not cut government spending.

LP Executive Director Wes Benedict commented, "Libertarians apparently predict congressional deceit well. We knew this was coming long before it happened."

LP Chair Mark Hinkle added, "This debt deal only does one substantive thing: it raises the debt limit. Everything else is smoke and mirrors."
Hinkle continued, "I hope that in the future, those Tea Partiers who really want to see large cuts in government spending across the board will stop fighting their own interests by supporting Republicans. I hope they will support the Libertarian Party and Libertarian candidates instead."

My response to Mitch McConnell's debt ceiling speech to the senate

Mike Shaner
August 2, 2011

I just finished listening to Mitch McConnell praise himself and his colleagues for selling America down the river by raising the debt ceiling. At times he sounded like he was accepting an academy award. It is hard to believe that this clown is so far removed from reality that he actually believes they accomplished something good. Here are some of the highlights and my response:

Whoever the next President is will be back asking to raise the debt ceiling again.

This is true, Unless that President is Ron Paul. I think this quote is very telling. My question would be, if this deal really does reduce spending, why would there be a need to raise the debt ceiling again?

We will be back at it in 2013, trying to continue to reduce the size and scope of government and reducing spending.

How perverse can one be? So McConnell believes that raising the debt ceiling which allows the government to continue spending, somehow limits government and reduces spending? This is like saying that I will lose weight by eating more.

This kind of discussion isn’t something to dread. It’s something to welcome.

Uhh...no Mitch, it’s something to dread.

The President may not have enjoyed the debate we’ve just been through, it was a debate Washington very much needed to have.

What debate? Anyone with half a brain saw this coming. You clowns posture like pro wrestlers, with the hope of creating the illusion that you are working for your constituents but everyone knew the ceiling would be raised. What sort of debate is it when both sides agree the government should continue to borrow and spend?

It (the bill) doesn’t include a dime of job killing tax hikes.

Really? What do you call the massive inflation that will occur? The weakening of an already fragile economy? What about the next time it needs to be raised? You cannot continue to borrow and spend forever without eventually increasing revenues. Make no mistake: this is a tax bill.

The President is now agreeing to trillions of dollars in spending cuts.

In the first place, it is not up to the President to agree with anything. Congress controls the purse strings. The President must make due with what he is given.

In the second place, no spending cuts were offered and none were accepted. Yes, he agreed to spend less than he wanted too but not less than we are spending now.

That’s like saying I will reduce household spending by not buying a new car. It’s preposterous. The fact is, government spending will rise next year, just not as much as some would like. That is hardly a “spending cut”.

Let me be clear (is he Obama now) The legislation Senate is about to vote on is just a first step but it is a crucial step toward fiscal sanity.

Again, the opposite is true. It is just one of many steps congress has taken to destroy this country. The debt ceiling has been raised 102 times since 1917. This time is no different. As far as fiscal sanity goes, you guys have none. Ron Paul offered a bill that marched toward fiscal sanity. You should read it.

We’ve had to settle for less than we wanted.

Ha! Only slightly, i’m sure you would have spent more if you thought it was politically viable.

The American people agreed with us on the nature of the problem. They know that government didn’t accumulate $14.5 trillion in debt because it didn’t tax enough.

The American people understand the problem. You never did. We have reached no agreement with you on the nature of this problem. You are correct that we understand that government debt wasn’t accumulated by lack of revenue. It was accumulated by continuing to raise the debt ceiling. Borrowing equals debt. To lower the debt quit borrowing money, see where i’m going here...

If you are spending yourself into oblivion the solution isn’t to spend more. It’s to spend less.

Exactly what i’ve been trying to tell you!

Neither side got everything they wanted in these negotiations but I think it was the view of those in my party that we try to get as much spending cuts as we could from a government that we didn’t control.

I think both sides got exactly what they wanted: more borrowing and spending. If it was the goal of the Republican party to cut spending, you failed miserably. Republicans do control this portion of the government. If the house had voted not to raise the debt ceiling, that would have been the end of it. Any Republican who voted to allow more government borrowing and spending should be fired.

This is not the deficit reduction package that I would have written.

I know. This is.

The fact that we’re on pace to add another $7 trillion over the next 10 years is nothing to celebrate.

This is my point! so why did you do it and why the hell are you celebrating it?

Slowing down the big government freight train from it’s current trajectory will give us the time we need to work toward a real solution or give the American people the time they need to make their voices heard.

You did not slow down big government. How long have Republicans known about this crisis? Didn’t you know about it in November of 2010? My god, how much time do you need?

I’d like to say a word about some of those who made today’s vote possible.

I told you he sounded like he won an award. Here he goes with the “first i’d like to thank” speech.

I’ll start with Speaker Boehner. It should be noted that he helped set the terms of this debate.

Yes, it should.

I want to think my friend the majority leader for his work in getting this agreement over the finish line.

How sweet. I am sure Harry Reid appreciates Mitch McConnell as well. After all, they are on the same team.

We may disagree a lot

Not really...You and Harry seem to get along pretty well.

I think today we can prove that when it comes down to it we’ll get together when the greater good is at stake.

Ahh collectivism. Unfortunately you collectively sold out the American people, who were overwhelmingly opposed to this bill.

He goes on to thank the President, vice President, their staffs, and almost everyone but John Maynard Keynes, who was conspicuously left out of his speech.

The American people spoke out and we heard them.

It is possible you heard us but if so, we were ignored.

The American People want to see accountability and cooperation in Washington.

We may hold you accountable but we do not want to see you cooperatively allow more borrowing and spending. The only time we want to see cooperation is when the scope of government is reduced. The only time a bill should pass through Congress is when it meets the original intent of the Constitution and the spirit of liberty.

Now this bill does not solve the problem.

No kidding.

We are nowhere near where we need to be.

You got that right.

In the end we are back to where we started.

Not quite...we are further in debt.

For the first time in a very long timeI think we can say to the American people that we are finally facing in the right direction.

You can say that but you’d be lying. I guess you are accustomed to that. I still say he should be water-boarded

A Time To Compromise

Mike Shaner
August 1, 2011

I hate the idea of political compromise. Media pundits toss the word around as though it were something to be cherished. It is actually something to be despised.

The word "compromise," when used in political circles, simply means to sell out. The only time a bill should ever pass through Congress is if it meets the original intent of the Constitution and the spirit of liberty.

Having said that, I believe it is time for us to compromise. The treasonous debt agreement will reach the floor in a few hours and be subject to a vote. This is a time for compromise. This is the time when conservatives, progressives, and Libertarians put aside their differences and flood congress with phone calls and emails demanding they vote against this sham.

We all have different reasons for hating this bill but we all hate it! Let's work together and do our part to prevent this monstrosity from becoming reality.

Looks like debt deal will get done....but let's fight like hell anyway

By Mike Shaner
July 31, 2011

According to Politico congressional leaders have reached a deal to raise the debt ceiling:

Opening the Senate at noon, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he was “cautiously optimistic.” And after a lengthy afternoon meeting between Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Democrats said the two leaders were receptive to the outlines of the agreement largely negotiated by McConnell through Vice President Joe Biden.
Later, Reid’s office issued a statement that said: “Sen. Reid has signed off on the debt ceiling agreement pending caucus approval.”

It seems the urge to get one more fix was just too strong to avoid. I suppose no serious person ever believed the addicts in Washington would give up their drug of choice.

It is still our duty to fight like hell for the good of our Republic. Let's spend the next few days calling our Rep's and let them know that we will be constantly harassing them until election day.

Let us make it clear that we will not only vote against them but we will campaign vigorously to persuade others to vote against them. Any one who votes to raise the debt ceiling is a traitor to this country and should lose his job.

Debt Ceiling: Do Not Raise It.

Mike Shaner
July 30, 2011

Watching congress scrounge for a way to raise the debt ceiling is like watching a crack head dig through a filthy gutter, looking for enough change to score “one more time.” It would be hard to fathom such a grotesque misplacement of priorities were it not happening before our very eyes.
The goal of the crack-head should be to stop using drugs and the goal of congress should be to stop the borrowing and spending. Unfortunately, everyone except Ron Paul seems to be oblivious to this.
The debt ceiling should not be raised under any circumstance. The only way to reduce government spending is to stop giving them money. The only way for a drug addict to get clean is to stop using drugs.
I understand that not allowing the federal government to borrow more money will cause some temporary discomfort. All addicts suffer from withdrawals.
People addicted to drugs will lie, cheat, and steal to get high. They will manipulate everyone around them and make empty promises. When the promises are no longer believed they will resort to scare tactics and threats.
The government does the exact same thing. They promise to spend more wisely in the future if we just give them one more fix.
Republicans manipulate us by saying they want a “balanced budget” amendment. The balanced budget amendment is a scam that does nothing to curtail spending. Just for a point of reference, California has a balanced budget amendment. No one will accuse the golden state of being frugal.

Texas also has a balanced budget amendment. Rick Perry and the Texas legislature resort to accounting gimmicks like delaying a $2.3 billion payment to schools by one day to technically push it into the next fiscal year and keep it off the books. The budget may appear balanced but nothing is further from the truth.
Giving Washington a balanced budget amendment will do little more than give them a built in excuse to raise taxes. After all, It just says the budget must be balanced. It doesn’t say how. Sooner or later they run out of tricks and the only option available will be (taxation) theft. Just like a drug addict.
Democrats scare the elderly by threatening to withhold social security and medicare payments. I guess they are no longer claiming that SSI funds are safely put away in a lock box.
They use the weak and less fortunate to prey on the emotions of caring individuals the way a manipulative drug addict drains the hearts and pocketbooks of anyone who has ever cared for him.

It is time for an intervention. We can no longer be helpless enablers. We should have stood a long time ago. We must stand now.
The debt ceiling has been raised 102 times since 1917. Wouldn’t we be in much better shape today if congress had just shown some spine and never allowed it to happen the first time?
Yes, it is painful to just stop and do the right thing, but what happens to a drug addict who never get’s clean? It seems the alternative is far more painful.

Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee says racism is the reason for debt ceiling debate

Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee (D-Texas) says not raising the debt ceiling would be racist:

“I am particularly sensitive to the fact that only this president, only this president, only this one has received the kind attacks and disagreements and inability to work. Only this one,” Jackson Lee said on the House floor this afternoon. Read between the lines. What is different about this president that should put him in a position that he should not receive the same kind of respectful treatment of when it is necessary to raise the debt limit in order to pay our bills, something required by both statute and the 14th amendment?”

I wonder if that means the President hates white people since he voted not to raise the debt ceiling in 2006 (calling it a failure of leadership) and didn't bother to vote at all in 2007 and 2008.
